The Kids Summer Reading Contest began on June 8 and ended July 20. We had 37 registered contestants. Out of the 37 contestants only two did not finish the six weeks of reading. The winners of the Grand Prizes were:

Pre-K Girl Samantha Yoder/ Pre-K Boy Reid Holcomb. Each won a Strider bike and helmet courtesy of Colleen and Mikal Lewis

Elementary School Girl: Phoebe Neider/Elementary School Boy: JT Isakson. Instead of bikes this year, because bikes are in short supply, the Tin City Masonic Lodge #112 provided $100 Amazon gift cards to each of the winners.

Middle School Girl: Alysia Isakson/Middle School Boy: Jona Neider. The Hill City Public Library provided each of these winners with a $100 Amazon gift card. Unfortunately, we had no winners in our High School category.

Our contestants were enthusiastic, dedicated and competitive, it was great!

Black Hills Raptors is scheduled on Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. in the gym of the Hill City Boys & Girls Club. If you plan to attend, which I hope you do, please enter at the door across from the tennis courts.

The book sale the Friends of the Library held on July 18 was a great success. There is another book sale scheduled for Sept. 12 and 13. If you need to purchase books and cannot wait for a scheduled book sale please stop at the library during our regular business hours and a librarian would be glad to assist you.

We still have the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program available for children from birth to the first day of Kindergarten. Stop in at the library to register.

Storytime is on Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Kids’ Annex. Come join in the fun!

The next Book Club meeting is Sept. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the library. We will discuss your favorite summer read. Everyone is welcome.

Imagination Club will start sometime later in the fall. Be on the lookout for that announcement.

I look forward to seeing each and everyone of you at your Hill City Public Library.
