Tracy Spaans joins Prevailer staff
Keystone native and Hill City High School alum Tracy Spaans recently joined the Hill City Prevailer News team.
After receiving her degree in mass communications and communication arts from Black Hills State University, Spaans was able to pursue a career in graphic design and photography.
“It really has been a fun and rewarding field to go into. I enjoy working with other people’s ideas and making them come to life with my own creative style,” said Spaans.
Specializing in portrait photography, Spaans enjoys working with people.
“Seniors are probably my favorite. It’s always a challenge to really portray their unique personality and interests, but you can do so with a great deal of creative expression. It ends up being a lot of fun,” Spaans said.
Spaans is looking forward to covering sports, school and other local events and happenings.
“I really had no intention to join the newspaper, but I love being involved in the school and community, and they needed someone to cover those events. It just made sense. I think it will be a good fit,” said Spaans.
Spaans has lifelong ties to the community.
“I attended Hill City School from kindergarten through graduation, met my husband here and now our kids go to school here,” Spaans said. “ The Hill City Schools have excellent academics, athletic opportunities and top notch teachers and staff. You also can’t beat the small-town support and camaraderie of this community. I can’t imagine being anywhere else. We have Ranger pride through and through.”
Spaans lives in the Black Hills with her husband and two children.
“When we aren’t chasing kids to sports practices, games or rodeos, we enjoy taking in the beauty of the Black Hills. Whether it’s hiking, horseback riding or just enjoying the view from our patio, we like to soak it all in. We are truly blessed to live here,” said Spaans.
“We’re very excited to have Tracy join the Prevailer staff,” said Southern Hills Publishing general manager Jason Ferguson. “She’s local, knows the area and has already hit the groun running. She will be a great addition to our staff.”
