Veterans’ gift program deadline Oct. 17

Dear Editor,
I hope you will publish this reminder for people about the vets’ gifts program at the senior center.

The deadline for donating the items for this year’s Veterans’ Gift Shop is Oct. 17 to allow plenty of time for the vets to shop, wrap and send their gifts.

Hill City Senior Center is once again sponsoring this collection.

Gifts collected are sent to the veterans’ facilities in Hot Springs. The veterans there then pick gifts to send to members of their families: men, women and children of all ages.

Members of the auxiliary help in the selection, wrapping and mailing of the gifts.

Gifts should be new items, but not too expensive. Items should be those that you would like to give or receive yourself such as clothing, gloves, hats, toys, household items, books or personal items (please, no perfume, make-up or scented toiletries).

Also, please no heavy or breakable items because of mailing issues. Handmade items are always welcomed.

Gift cards to national chains are welcomed and easy to mail. Donations of wrapping paper, tape, tags, Christmas cards are also welcomed.

Price tags should be included (they will be removed) as the value of the gifts can help the VA with grants.

Veterans in nursing homes are also included in this project when supplies allow. Contributions are gratefully appreciated.

Items may be dropped off at the senior center office, Community Lutheran Church, Little White Church or St. Rose of Lima.
