Wrestling teams compete at Hot Springs Extravaganza

Hill City boys wrestling took the sixth place out of six teams competing  at the Hot Springs Holiday Extravaganza last Saturday.
Colton Sytsma (2-1) led the team’s effort scoring 15  team points.
Sytsma defeated  Easton Tesch of Rapid City Central by fall 1:48 in the consolation round. In a third place matchup Sytsma defeated  Eldon Parrish of Rapid City Stevens, placing third overall in the 113-pound weight class.
David Gomez (2-2) scored 13 team points and placed fourth in the 132- weight class. Gomez beat both of his consolation round opponents and held his own in quarterfinal action.
James Dubois and Caleb Garcia contributed to Hill City’s team score scoring seven and five team points respectively.
The Hill City Girls wrestling team took fifth place at the same meet, one point shy of Custer and  narrowly edging out Rapid City Central.
Freshman Daisy Munoz (5-5) placed first in the 154 weight class scoring 24 team points for Hill City.
Munoz (5-5) won her semifinal match against sophomore Malia McKinnie (3-6) of Hot Springs. Munoz then won her first place match by fall over Manny Fornos of Rapid City Stevens.
Tiara Faehnrich (4-5) placed third in the 132-pound weight class, scoring 12 team points for the Rangers. She defeated River Bailey of Custer in third place action before losing in the semifinals.
Wrestling picks up again for both teams Jan 6. at  the Mid-Dakota Monster in Presho.
