Moore honored as young entrepreneur

Over 150 women gathered on Wednesday, May 14, to celebrate accomplished businesswomen at the 14th Annual Celebrating Women in Business Awards Luncheon at the Spearfish Holiday Inn Convention Center. Among those honored was Custer’s Carrie Moore, owner of Petals and Pages. Moore won the organizaton’s Enterprising Young Entrepreneur Award.
Moore purchased Jenny’s Floral in 2022 and recently transformed the business to Petals & Pages after she included a bookstore in the floral shop.
For nearly two years, she has run a program called “Charity in Bloom” where a specific arrangement is created each month and 10 percent of the sales from that arrangement go to a specific charity each month. To date, she has raised over $500 for charities like the YMCA, Custer Area Arts Council, Christmas for Kids and more.
In 2023, Moore received American Academy of Floriculture (AAF) credentials which is awarded to florists who give back to their community, educate the next generation and are seen as industry leaders. She recently received her professional floral communicators—international credentials stating that she is educated about her industry and can speak creditably about topics in the floral industry.
The Outstanding Women In Business Awards are designed to highlight the impact of outstanding businesswomen across South Dakota. SD Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) recognized the accomplishments of nine finalists for their business acumen and contributions, and the four award recipients were announced.
Speakers Dr. Julie Wingen, owner of Pain & Movement Solutions, Hallie Hovdenes, co-owner of Jitter Joint and Michelle May, owner of G.A.T.E. Consulting shared how they showed gratitude in their business journey and the importance of being resilient.
“We had an incredible group of finalists from across the state, representing a broad range of businesses, and each nomination showcases passion, dedication, and resilience through their business,” said Elizabeth Freer, SD CEO west director. “These women have made a notable impact on their community through their professional and volunteer work. Women are building businesses that meet community needs while having significant economic impact. It is an honor to recognize the finalists and award winners for all they do for South Dakota.”
