Robin Martinez joins Prevailer staff

COVID-19 brought a wave of newcomers to our area in 2020, including Robin Martinez, who recently joined the Hill City Prevailer News team.
A New Mexico native, Martinez is from a ranching background, received her degree from New Mexico State University in ag business and has pursued several career paths since that time, including ag lender, stock broker, car sales, innkeeper and she has an extensive background in real estate title and escrow.  Martinez is quick to note the common theme throughout each of her endeavors—effective communication.
“Being able to communicate accurately and effectively are key to who I am and what I’m about,” said Martinez.
Even when working in other fields, Martinez pursued freelance writing and editing opportunities with a number of New Mexico publications.
Martinez and her husband, Danny, are parents to six children, two of whom are currently students at Hill City High School. The Martinezes can be found enjoying the middle and high school sports scenes, even when their own kids aren’t participating. When she isn’t supporting kids at school activities, Martinez enjoys hiking the beautiful Black Hills, scrapbooking infrequently and being involved with the women’s ministry at Little White Church.
“The Hill City community has been such a good fit for us,” said Martinez, remarking on the contrasts between Hill City and their former place of residence, Albuquerque, N.M.  “We’ve enjoyed the small-town vibe and the warm welcome extended by long-term residents and other newbies alike.”
Whether solving real estate issues, helping farmers and ranchers obtain needed resources or simply providing someone with a place of rest and relaxation, Martinez’s care and concern for people is evident, and she plans to bring this same commitment to her position at the Prevailer.
“I’m looking forward to learning more about the behind-the-scenes workings of our community through the city council meetings and to connecting with more members of the community, getting to know those I haven’t yet had the opportunity to meet,” said Martinez.
“We are very happy to have Robin on board and believe she will be a valuable asset for the Prevailer News,” said Southern Hills Publishing general manager Jason Ferguson. “She has already hit the ground running, and we look forward to her helping us cover all that is going on in both Hill City and Keystone.”
