Custer’s new postmaster is on the job and making plans to settle into the community for the long haul. Kirk Rust, who most recently was a postal supervisor in Mitchell, replaces Larry Stalder who retired in December after three decades as Custer’s postmaster.
Rust is originally from Lincoln, Neb., and went to work for the postal service 12 years ago as a letter carrier in Hampton, Neb., which is near I-80.
A year ago he moved to Mitchell taking a promotion to supervisor, with the rest of his family staying behind in Hampton for the time being.
