10 Years ago, 2011 — The Custer School District Board of Education was updated on progress for the Common Core standards, a new education model in math and English...Over 180 children attended Christmas for Kids at the Custer Showbarn. Those in attendance were treated to an appearance by Fred and Barney of Flintstones Bedrock Village, magic shows by magician Duane Laflin and of course, a visit with Mr. and Mrs.

Tuesday, Nov. 30
2:47 p.m.: A deputy gave advice to someone involved in a civil problem at a trailer park on Needles View Place.
Wednesday, Dec. 1
12:57 a.m.: Fussin’ and hollerin’ was reported at a house on Custer’s Homestead Drive. No one there was hurt and deputies separated the two people.
5:03 a.m.: The pair from the previous call was at it again on Homestead Drive. Deputies calmed everything down…again.
6:59 a.m.: The usual cow was out in the usual place on Hwy. 16/385 near Avenue of the Chiefs. A deputy got it back where it belonged.

Fund started to help Dr. Sharon

Sharon Seneczko, owner of Southern Hills Animal Clinic, has earned a reputation for compassionate care for her patients as well as their humans during her 22 years as a veterinarian in Custer. Now it is the animal doctor who needs help.
Dr. Sharon, as she affectionately is known in the community, contracted COVID-19 in late October. After spending more than two weeks in the hospital she has been diagnosed with bronchiectasis, an obstructive lung disease. Currently working toward recovery but still unable to return to work she faces mounting medical bills.

10 Years ago, 2011 — A letter with over 30 signatures of downtown business owners who wanted Custer Cruisin’ vendors from 6th Street was presented to the Custer City Council....Custer County Sheriff Rick Wheeler was urging people to drive sober during the holiday season...Mr. and Mrs. Claus, played by Arvon and Ann Hamilton, listened to children tell them what they wanted for Christmas at the YMCA holiday celebration.

Thanksgiving Day Thursday, Nov. 25
12:11 p.m.: A lost person was reported in the Custer area. After much messing around and searching various places, the call was resolved when the lost person showed up at their home safe and sound.
1:20 p.m.: A tourist from California reported a wounded bison on the Wildlife Loop Road in Custer State Park. Though the visitor attempted to give it water and “help it up” (this is not recommended), a park ranger eventually put the wounded beast down.

10 years ago, 2011— The Custer City Council tabled an ordinance that would see modification to its streets and sidewalks after discussion was held on the establishment of an assessment district for payment of any sidewalk the city deems to be in need of construction or replacement ... Five Custer High School football team members were named to the All-Black Hills Conference football team. The five—Chad Bryant, Jake Thomsen, Tyler Schultz, Cody Schlechter and Tanner Eiesland —were all seniors. Fellow seniors Greg Witt and Gerold Herrick were named honorable mention.

A reason to give thanks

There are two families in Custer who will have much to be thankful for when they sit down to Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, thanks to a precious gift given from one church member to another.
Adam Muhm and his family will celebrate the lifesaving new kidney he received Nov. 10 and his kidney donor, Lisa Trana and her family, are basking in the joy of being able to share life with a member of her church family.
