Rudolph “Rudy” Karl Anderson was born to Jack and Helen Anderson May 19, 1931, in Whitefish, Mont. The family returned to Custer, S.D., a year later, and Rudy spent most of his life in Custer.  

Mike Dailey

Mike Dailey was born Oct. 6, 1950, to Milo and Margaret Dailey in Des Moines, Iowa.  He lived in Coon Rapids, Iowa, where he attended grade school and later moved to Mitchell, S.D., where he attended grade school.
His mother was killed in a car accident when he was 9 and his father married Barbara Belmont. The family moved to Cambridge, Mass., where his father attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary. From there they moved to Algona, Iowa, where he graduated high school.

Asher Kahler

Asher Jacob Kahler (also known as AJ) was born Nov. 19, 1940 to Margaret and Oliver Kahler in Nazareth, Pa.
He was an officer and combat veteran with the United States Air Force. He served for 20 years.
Upon retirement he utilized his military training in mathematics to become an educator teaching in the public school system at the junior high and high school level in Crestview, Fla., and Laurel Hill, Fla., for 15 years.
AJ passed away surrounded by his loving family Oct. 31, 2024, after a brief illness. He was 83.

Sharon Linde

Sharon Kay Linde was born Feb. 26, 1947, in Rapid City, S.D., to Robert and Dorothy (Yost) Champion.
Sharon, of Custer, S.D., passed away Nov. 5, 2024. She was 77.
She was preceeded in death by her son, David Rosten; brother, Ed Champion; and sister, Marie Hindman.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Jack; son, Bill Benson; daughters, Laura Taylor and Christine Hanna; brother, Bob Champion; and many grandchildren.
Committal services were held at Mt. View Cemetery in Keystone, S.D. Nov. 12.

Gerald Goins

Gerald Clyde Goins, 81, of Pringle, S.D., passed away Nov. 3, 2024.
Gerald was born Jan. 13, 1943, in Salina, Kan., to Clyde and Martha (Quiring) Goins.  
Gerald proudly served in the U.S. Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1966.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Barbara Goins of Pringle; sons, Eric Weber, John (June) Pierce, Leslie Pierce, and Paul Pierce; daughters, Anna Caesar, Tamara Thompson and Kay Hendrik; sister, Sandy VanMeter; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  
Private family services will be held.

David Hessman

David Hessman, 72, of the Black Hills, passed away Nov. 4, 2024.  
David was born Jan. 10, 1952, in Rapid City, S.D., to Leo and Shirley (Johnson) Hessman.  
David is survived by his stepchildren, Kasey Mills and Kesha Mills; sister, Julie Brown of Rapid City; and nieces.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Jan. 10 at Living Outreach Church in Custer, S.D.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.

Clayton Horst

Clayton Robert (aka Rubert) Horst was born March 3, 1938, to Adolph J. Horst and Bertha A. Horst in Walworth County, S.D.
One of several siblings, Clayton schooled in Mobridge,  S.D., graduating from Mobridge High School.
Following graduation Clayton enlisted in the United States Navy, entering active duty Feb. 28, 1956, just shy of his 18th birthday. He served aboard the USS Pecatonica (AOG-57) where he attained the rank of Seaman. On Aug. 10, 1959, he was honorably discharged at the U.S. Naval Receiving Station, Norfolk, Va.

Emelia ‘Minnie’ Moulton

Emelia “Minnie” M. Moulton was born May 12, 1945, in Eureka, S.D., to Jacob and Mathilda Malsam.
As a young child, she lived on her family’s farm near Hosmer, S.D., and later the family moved to Pierre, S.D.

Rose Marie Scott

Rose Marie (Best) Scott was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Rapid City, S.D., to Albert and Rose (Cvach) Best. She completed the family, joining her brother Charles on a ranch located in the countryside of Martin, S.D. The family moved to Custer, S.D., in 1935.

Ferol McClaren

Ferol E. McClaren, 90, passed to her heavenly home Oct. 25, 2024 at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs, Neb. Ferol was born Feb. 22, 1934 in Pinewood, Minn.
Ferol was the third of five children born to Miles and Jennie Ousley. The Ousley children lost their Mom when they were young and were raised by various relatives and families.
