Joanne Eunice Hoffman was born April 3, 1935, in Deadwood, S.D., to Wesley and Blanche Groshong.  She grew up in Nemo, S.D., where she attended grade school and was the only student in school during the first grade.  She attended high school in Lead, S.D., graduating in 1953. She was very active in the Nemo Community Church, where she played the piano on many occasions.   

David Parsons

David Parsons was born Nov. 4, 1945, in Redfield, S.D., to Greer and Marcella Parsons.  He was the second of five children. He grew up in Custer, S.D., and graduated from Custer High School in 1964.
David worked in the logging industry for many years hauling logs to local sawmills. In his late career he switched over to hauling propane in the Custer area.  Dave took pride in doing a job well and loved to work and to support his family.
In July of 1971 David married Linda Tranna. They made their home in Custer and to this union were born two sons, Troy and Corey.

Dallas Scott

Dallas Roy Scott, 52, of Newell, S.D., died May 4, 2024.
Services are pending at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, S.D.

Martin Frasier

Martin Arnold “Moose” Frasier was born in Sturgis, S.D., to the late Arnold Frasier and Carol (Birst) Frasier. He was the fifth child born among six children.
As a child he liked to hunt, wrestle, hike  and do outdoor things with his family. Also, as a child, he was introduced into the logging industry, which he pursued without hesitation. He was an easy-going child and it did not take much for him to enjoy life.

Wyoma Semler

Wyoma “Marie” Semler, always known as Marie, was born Aug. 28, 1936, in Sheridan, Wyo. to Herbert R. Zingg and Madge Son Zingg of Clearmont, Wyo.
Marie grew up on the Zingg Ranch in Clearmont. She graduated from Clearmont High School in 1954, where she was active in school activities, a cheerleader and sang at school functions.
After graduation she and her mother moved to Sheridan, where she attended and graduated from cosmetology school in 1955. She kept her license current but never actually worked in a salon.

Mary Owens

Mary Jane Owens was born Sept. 30, 1942, in Portland, Ore. She married Harold E. Owens Nov. 26, 1962. Together they celebrated 51 years of marriage. 
She and Harold lived in Hill City, S.D. for the past 23 years until his passing July 6, 2014. She remained there until just recently when she returned to North Platte, Neb., to be closer to her daughter and her family.

Jo Murner

Jo Murner was born in Mott, N.D., Sept. 14, 1930, to Gale and Cora (Olien) Rounds.  She and the family moved to Rapid City, S.D., where Jo graduated from Rapid City High School.
On Oct. 23, 1948, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Murner in Rapid City. To this union four children were born—William, David, Lorri and Kimmie. Bill preceded her in death March 18, 2016.

Wyoma Semler

Wyoma “Marie” Zingg Semler, 87, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024 in Rapid City, S.D., with her loving family by her side. Services are pending at this time and will be posted soon.

John Burke

John Michael “Bones” Burke was born in Chicago, Ill., Feb. 5,  1958, to Thomas and Lorraine Burke.
The Burke family moved to Custer, S.D., in 1972 and it quickly became “Home.”  
John loved the Hills and the community, and made many lasting friendships that he cherished. He graduated in 1976 from Custer High School.

Eileen Wilson

 Eileen Marjory Wilson was born in Chicago, Ill., March 19, 1946, to Rev. John and Marge De Vries.
She lived her early years in Hitchcock, Geddes, Gregory, Sioux Falls  and Lead, S.D., where her father served Methodist and United Methodist Churches. Her early life was shared with sister, Jeanne, brother, Don, and sister, Bev.
After graduating from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, she was a student at Dakota Wesleyan University. While working part-time in the dining hall, she met Peary Wilson, also working there, with whom she kidded and grew to love.
