Jeannine A. Spoerl was born Aug. 4, 1942 to Stanley and Lorraine (Pfeil) Stas in Milwaukee, Wis.
Jeanie was united in marriage to her husband, Bob, in 1962.  
Jeanie loved her family and friends, gardening, horses, her cabin in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and trips to the Southwest.
Jeanie, of Ixonia, Wis., died at her home Wednesday, May 26, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was 78.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gordon Stas; and sister-in-law, Shirley (Paul) Schmitz.

Pam Pettit

Pam Pettit was born Jan. 4, 1953, in Rapid City, S.D. to Louis “Punk” and Francis “Sister” (Belmont) Pettit. She grew up and enjoyed her time in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
On Feb. 19, 1977, she married Jim Hammond, and Feb. 25, 1980 she gave birth to her son, Thayne Hammond. She enjoyed being a mom and lots of family fun.
In 2007 she retired from the federal government after 24 years of service with the National Park Service and Forest Service. After her retirement she became a “hired hand,” helping learn and put on cowboy cookouts with Clayton and Rhonda Sander.

Jim Coffin

Jim Coffin was born in 1931 to Marie and Harry Coffin and grew up on their ranch near Trail City, S.D.  
He was the eighth child in a family with 12 children. After graduation from Mobridge (S.D.) High School, he volunteered for the U.S. Air Force where he served in France during the Korean War. Upon returning to the U.S., he worked as a postal employee in Oregon and then moved to California where he spent many years of his life.   

Shirley Carr

Shirley May (Ertel) Carr was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Wisconsin to George and Mayme (Schwartz) Lewig.
Shirley, of Custer, S.D., passed away May 20, 2021, at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital in Rapid City, S.D. She was 93.
She is survived by her husband, Clinton of Custer; sons, John (Gail) Ertel of Custer, and Gary (Doris) Ertel of Hillpoint, Wis.; grandchildren, Jocelynn, Jarrod and Jason; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces, Carol and Karen.  

Howard Munsell

Howard Lee Munsell, was born June 15, 1936, in Bennett, Colo., to Teddy and Dorothy (Lamb) Munsell.  
Howard attended school until 10th grade then ventured into the working world until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955.  Howard was honorably discharged in 1957.  
Howard married Cleo Stickley in 1955, and to their union two daughters were born, Susan and Joy.  Howard later adopted his son, Wayne.

Janeane Henn

Janeane L. Henn, age 73, of Carthage, S.D., died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, at her residence. Memorial services were March 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage.
Janeane Linnae Henn was born  Oct. 14, 1947, in Mitchell, S.D., to Margery and Leland Baldwin.
Janeane graduated high school in Custer, S.D., in 1965 and graduated college from Black Hills State with a degree in education.
Janeane was married Aug. 20, 1967, to Todd Jacobson and moved to Jacksonville, Fla. After Florida they moved back to Custer and were divorced in 1982.

Donald Husted

“It’s been a good life,” said Donald Husted in a recent magazine article.  “But I do miss being a cowboy,” he added.
The former rancher, soldier, electrical contractor, airplane pilot, power company manager, artist, hunter, wagon teamster, wild horse enthusiast and cowboy passed away May 4, 2021, at the age of 90.

Frank Page

Frank W. Page of Hermosa, S.D., was born Jan. 31, 1934. He died May 1, 2021. He was 87.
Graveside services will be held May 8 at 3:30 p.m. at the Hermosa Cemetery with Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home officiating.
The Reverend Dr. Diane Hemmen of the Hermosa UCC will conduct the service.

Joan Meyer

Joan J. Meyer was born Sept. 19, 1930 to Rex and Cecile (Ickler) Marker.    
Joan was a faithful and beloved wife to Leo for 42 years. She was a mother of six children, not the least of which included her special son, Darren, whom for 41 years she provided care for.  
Joan, of Custer, S.D., passed away April 20, 2021, at Monument Health Custer Hospital. She was 90.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; and sons, Dennis and Darren.

Samuel ‘Skip’ Pomper

Samuel Richard “Skip” Pomper was born Dec. 26, 1947, in Long Island, N.Y. He traveled around the U.S., always finding his strength in helping young people.
Skip had a huge heart for students and seeing them succeed in getting their diploma was a huge joy for him. He worked as a paraprofessional in the Custer School District the last seven years of his life.
Skip has a daughter who lives in Maryland and a son in Florida.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a Yeoman with the Sixth Fleet staff until his discharge in 1971.
