Alberta L. “Bert” Libolt was born Feb. 9, 1926, to James M. and Cecile E. (Meacham) Libolt, on the family farm in Cherokee County, Iowa. As she was the youngest of nine children and three years younger than the next oldest sibling, her initials - A.L.L. - were most appropriate.  

Robert Kothe

Robert “Bob” Erling Kothe was born Feb. 14, 1941, to Martin and Grace (Seibert) Kothe, in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Kothe family relocated to Custer, S.D., when Bob was just 4 years old. He attended school in Custer and graduated in 1959. He went on to further his education at the Yankton (S.D.) College and University of South Dakota where he was a member of the ROTC.

Blaine Foss

Blaine Foss, long time resident of Custer, S.D., passed away Oct. 15, 2021, in Palm Desert, Calif., due to complications from leukemia. He was 72.
Blaine (birth name A.B. Clark, III) was born Aug. 26, 1949, to A.B. Clark, Jr. and Phyllis Loraine Graham in Mattoon, Ill.

Karen Knapp

Karen Rae Knapp was born Oct. 26, 1946, to William and Erma (Mitchell) Gould in Custer, S.D.  They had two children, Karen and Sandra.   
Karen grew up in Custer and graduated from Custer High School in 1965. She married Ken Barfoot June 18, 1965, and they lived in Hill City, S.D. They welcomed daughter, Lana Rae, in 1967.
The family moved to Custer in 1969, where she worked at the family-owned jewelry store. In 1985 Karen moved to Rapid City, S.D., and worked for BH Ammunition.

Janice Bugenhagen

On Friday, October 15th, 2021, Janice (Jan) Elaine Bugenhagen, loving wife and mother of four energetic boys, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 at Clarkson Health Care surrounded by family.
She was born October 15th, 1938 to Noel and Lucille Abbott in Harrisburg, South Dakota.

Ted Bryant

Ted Michael Bryant was born Dec. 22, 1958, to Frank and Doris Bryant. He had four siblings Paul, Phyllis, Curt and Shirley.
Ted was known for his quick smile, laid back fun-loving personality and great sense of humor.
Throughout his childhood growing up in Custer, S.D., Ted developed a passion for athletics. He excelled in football, basketball and golf.

Darrell Harkin

Darrell Harkin was born Oct. 26, 1939, to Loyal and Rose (Burke) Harkin in Archer, Iowa. He grew up on the farm in Henry, S.D. Darrell served in the military in the South Dakota Army National Guard. He also worked in road construction before becoming his lifelong dream of being a rancher.
Darrell passed away Oct. 3 at his home surrounded by family in Hermosa, S.D. He was 81.
A time of celebration and sharing was held Oct. 7 at the Custer County Fairgrounds. Mass of Christian Burial was Oct. 8 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hermosa.

Loren Lyndoe

Loren David Lyndoe was born Dec. 26, 1955, to Arthur and Anne Lyndoe. They had five children,  Larry, Lorraine, Shirley, Jim and Loren. He grew up in Custer, S.D., and graduated from Custer High School in 1974.
He married his high school sweetheart Phyllis (Bryant) Lyndoe May 23, 1981, and together they had one daughter, Kelsey Lyndoe.

Ronald Enderby

Ronald ‘Ronnie” Richard Enderby was born June 8, 1942, in Lead, S.D., to Richard and Shirley (Barry) Enderby. After graduating from Lead High School, he went on to earn an associate degree in business administration and a minor in economics.   He proudly served in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 1963 and worked at the Homestake Mine until his retirement.

Herman Venekamp

Herman “Herm” James Venekamp was born Nov. 7, 1933 to John and Ethel (Smith) Venekamp in Presho, S.D. He was the seventh of eight children and was of the first generation of Venekamps born in the United States.
Herm attended school in Presho, graduating in 1951. He enrolled at Dakota Wesleyan University in the fall of 1951 and was the only member of his family to attend college. He always said, “An education is something no one can take away from you.”
