Good riddance to Jason Ravnsborg

Jason Ravnsborg is no more.
It took too long but at least the great men and women who represent the people did the right thing in impeaching our attorney general, who if you don’t remember, killed a pedestrian with his vehicle in 2020.
He left the pedestrian lying in a field all night. He also left the scene and returned the next day with a sheriff friend in tow. He plead no contest to the two misdemeanors he was charged with.

Playing tourist in my hometown

I drove behind two cars with Minnesota license plates on the way to Rapid City. They were headed for I-90, most likely on their way home after a vacation. The fun part is I no longer have to follow the same route after too few days in the Hills. Now I get to stay.

Impeachment trial has begun

Greetings! It’s official.  The recount for District 30 Senate race is as follows: Pennington County Monday, June 27 at 9 a.m.; Custer County Monday, June 27 at 2 p.m.; Fall River County Tuesday, June 28 at 9 a.m. All recounts are held at the respective county courthouses with the auditor’s office in charge.  All are open to the public.  
Also, the property tax summer study is having its first meeting at 10 a.m. on June 27 in room 362 in the State Capitol.

June 19 marks my one year anniversary to my wonderful husband Honey Badger. I had wanted to spend my entire column speaking about what I’ve learned over the last year of being a newlywed and what an amazing husband Honey Badger is.
But each day I wake up and the headlines that I read really hurt more and more.
The sadness with each act of gun violence and mental health crisis in this country makes me compelled to tackle some of these issues with my words.

Greetings! Well, the Primary Election for the legislature has come and gone. Seems like a long time ago already. In District 30, the House of Representatives race, the unofficial results were as follows:  
Dennis Krul 2535 votes for 27 percent
Trish Ladner 2133 votes for 25 percent
Patrick Bauman 2033 votes for 23 percent
Lisa Gennaro 1309 votes for 15 percent
Gerald Herrick 660 votes for 8 percent.
Congratulations to Rep. elect Dennis Krull and Rep. Trish Ladner on winning your House seats.

My summer reading plans

My family has officially begun our summer reading challenge where my younger brothers and sisters compete with the adults in the family to see who can read the most books. This tradition began a few years ago as a way to keep everyone reading over the summer. Plus, it is a lot of fun.

A tearful twist on the taffy tale

I saw a recent post on Facebook about the terrible closing of the Rushmore Mountain Taffy shop in Keystone. The post essentially said the taffy shop was their family tradition, and the reason their family comes to Keystone.
I can relate to that.
Whenever I visit my mom in New Jersey I always go to my favorite candy shop Jenkinson’s on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach. It’s the only reason I visit that particular boardwalk.

Attending B-21 groundbreaking

Greetings! Rep. Trish Ladner and I had the distinct pleasure of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the new B-21 Raider coming to Ellsworth Air Force Base. The actual buildings are being called “low observable restoration facilities.”
Gen. Anthony Cotton was the keynote speaker.  He is the Commander of Air Force Global Command and also Air U.S. Strategic Command stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base located in northwest Louisiana.  This base is just south of Shreveport, La.  

Property tax study set to begin

In the past we have fought hard together on some key issues and we have proven that when District 30 stands together on an issue, our voice is powerful! I was proud to stand with you and fight against the expansion of Custer State Park and introduce legislation to re-assess the agriculture grassland taxes. The next battleground for us is the property tax issue. We will need that same passion and level of participation we had about opposing the Custer State Park as we head into addressing the property tax issues that are before us.
