What grade/subject do you teach? 

English as a Second Language, 7th grade Geography, and 7th grade Spanish

 

Where did you grow up and where did you go to college? 

I grew up in Hill City.  I originally completed an Accounting degree in Vermillion at University of South Dakota.  

Then I went back to school and received my teaching degree from Black Hills State University.

Middle School Special Education and High School Algebra

I grew up in Redfield and went to Black Hills State University for college.

 

How long have you been a teacher? 

18 years

 

Why did you become a teacher?: 

Teaching is what our family does so I guess it was just a natural thing. 

 

What do you love about teaching?

Hill City’s school board was honored by the Associated School Boards of South Dakota (ASBSD) for its collective efforts to enhance knowledge, govern schools and serve students.

 

Hill City’s school board earned a gold level award in the Act, Learn, Lead (ALL) program which recognizes public education school board’s participation in activities, training and leadership.

 

 

 

No one knows why it was purple. Perhaps it was painted to match the old spool tables. Maybe it was purple to match the decor of a classroom. Or its color  was just a way to delineate it from the children’s oak chairs. 

 

Teacher Cheryl Erdman does know she rarely sat in the purple chair when it was in her classroom at the old Keystone School, even though it was the teacher’s chair.
