I realize my faithful readers have not yet had a chance to “meet” my beloved Sadiedog. And since she’s doing “rollies” on the carpet right now I think it’s about time I devoted a column to my four-egged bestie!
I have always been a dog person. And Sadie is the first non German Shepherd (GSD) I have ever owned.
When I adopted her she was labeled an Austrailain Shepherd and I figured a shepherd was a shepherd...right?
At least twice now long-time South Dakota American Indian newspaper owner and editor Tim Giago has written Sunday opinion columns in the Rapid City Journal suggesting Lakota Sioux riders be added to the wranglers who drive the buffalo during the annual roundup in Custer State Park. Giago wrote a column before the roundup urging Gov. Kristi Noem and state Game, Fish and Parks officials to take a look at doing this, and another after the roundup when nothing he suggested came to pass.
Have you ever been watching a horror movie and one of the characters in the show is slowly walking toward the villain/creature/mass murderer about to slash them to death? You want to reach through the TV and hold them back, or at the very least, shout at them, “Don’t go that way!” You can’t, of course, and the unsuspecting girl/guy keeps walking toward instant death as you sit there helpless.
Perhaps the biggest advantage in working in an office by yourself is the fact you get to listen to anything you want without headphones. You know, so long as it is appropriate (As much as I might want to, I can’t be listening to rap in the office because that is not work-appropriate in the slightest).
The good news is we have a compassionate governor in South Dakota who listens to the voice of reason. The bad news is we have some less compassionate people working at the Department of Corrections (DOC).
The good news is that the 11 residents at the former STAR Academy, former SLIC-e LLC property south of Custer will not have to vacate the premises by the end of this month as first decreed in an Oct. 1 letter to them. They now have until March 1 to find new places to live, thanks to the intervention of Gov. Kristi Noem.
There is a special fondness in my heart for country roads.
You could take the song “Country Roads” by John Denver and change the words “West Virginia” to South Dakota and “Blue Ridge Mountains” to Black Hills Country and it would fit my sentiments exactly.
I just got the cutest card in the mail from my former neighbors, Peter and Ursala. They are in their 80s, 30 years my senior.
We lived next door to each other for two years. I remember when I first moved in Peter came over to introduce himself and made it clear that the previous neighbor “closed the door wrong.”

It’s an unfair advantage, we would say as we have always believed in the Constitutional right to defend oneself in the face of any kind of attack.
