The COVID-19 pandemic has further lowered the ability of low-income and minority students in South Dakota, including Native Americans, to enroll in college, obtain a degree and gain the lifelong financial and upward mobility benefits that come with higher education.

Thursday, Dec. 10
9:13 p.m.: A deputy checked on a stopped motorist near a defunct state facility on Hwy. 385 south of Custer. The motorist was waiting for someone.
Friday, Dec. 11
8:18 a.m.: Still more telephone fraud was reported on Chokecherry Ridge Road near Hermosa. The scam was another variant of the same old worn-out “Social Security card used in a crime in Texas” routine.
9:36 a.m.: An attempted break-in was reported at a business on 2nd Street in Buffalo Gap. The incident is under investigation.
