Blame for meter costing town money

The Keystone sewer plant project is once again costing taxpayers money, according to discussion at the most recent town board meeting.
 
Jerry Przybylski, public works superintendent, informed the board that Rapid Rooter located the pipe that the meter needs to be placed on, as the previous pipe was empty and not correct. Even with the pipe located, the town would need to share the cost with RCS Construction and AE2S Engineering to install the meter on the pipe and to dig a new manhole. 
 

Graduation date is set

The Custer High School graduating class of 2020 finally has a firm date for commencement exercises. The Custer School District Board of Education set Saturday, June 27, as the date for a quasi-traditional graduation ceremony to be held at Wildcat Stadium at 2 p.m.  
The decision was made at Monday’s regular monthly meeting where members of the graduation committee made presentations both live in the meeting room in the Armory and via teleconference. The majority of the meeting’s attendees participated remotely.

CHS grads will have ‘stationary parade’

Anyone who has ever seen a parade knows how they work. Spectators line the street while vehicles and floats carrying dignitaries, honorees and others glide slowly by as the riders wave to the crowds. 
What will take place this Saturday, however, is being called a Stationary Senior Parade in which 2020 Custer High School seniors will be stationed in or near their cars and the spectators will pass by to wave and cheer. 

County courthouse to reopen today

Pending any last-minute changes, the Custer County Courthouse is set to reopen to the public today, May 13.
At its May 6 meeting, the Custer County Commission decided to reopen the courthouse to the general public after having closed it to the public March 26 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Former vice-principal pleads guilty to disorderly conduct

Former Custer High School assistant principal and activities director Jordan Likness received a suspended 30-day jail sentence, will pay court costs and must attend counseling after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct in Seventh Judicial Circuit Court.
Likness was originally charged with two counts of domestic abuse, simple assault Feb. 17.
Likness was susequently placed on administrative leave by the school district, and ultimately resigned his position effective at the end of the school year.

Golden West to waive fees, other COVID-19 information

Golden West is forgoing disconnects and waiving late fees for customers financially impacted by COVID-19 through June 30. The company first made the no disconnects and no late fees pledge in response to COVID-19 March 16. Impacted customers should contact Golden West at 1-855-888-7777 or via the Chat button at goldenwest.com between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to discuss payment plans.
