Dorothy Foreman

Dorothy Jean (Degarimore Reams) Foreman was born Nov. 12, 1924, in Bremmerton, Wash., to Ora and Clemma (Simmons) Degarimore.
She received her A.B.A. from Cottey College, Nevada, Mo., her B.A. from Yankton (S.D.) College and her Masters in learning disabilities from Kansas University. She taught in Bonesteel, S.D., Herington, Kan., and Olathe, Kan.
She met her husband, Frederick Bryan Foreman (of Lead, S.D.), at Yankton College after he returned from service in WWII. They married in December 1946.

Randy Sletton

Randy Ray Sletton was born March 27, 1960, to Leslie and Dorothy (Tirrel) Sletten, near Tortono, S.D.     In 1968, he moved to Torrance, Calif., with his parents, where he lived until 1993. 
After graduating from high school in Torrance he joined the California Conservation Corps for three years.  Randy was a carpenter most of his life and his passions were camping and back packing.  In 1993, he moved to Custer, S.D., working at the saw mill in Hill City, S.D. He worked at the Custer Care Center until 2019.

John Spargur

John Wesley Spargur was born Aug. 31, 1937, in Custer, S.D., to Irvin and Mildred (Porter) Spargur.    He attended Custer Public Schools until his parents gave him permission to join the military at 17. He graduated at the top of his class in the school of hard knocks.

Sue Shreves

Sue Ellen Shreves was born July 29, 1948, in Lawrence, Kan., to Leslie and Gladys “Sally” (Benjamin) Murray.  Sue grew up in Lawrence, graduating from Lawrence High. She married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Shreves, while he was on leave from the U.S. Air Force May 26, 1967. 
When Dennis received his discharge they settled down in Lindsborg, Kan. Sue worked at a few places in Lindsborg, but her favorite was the senior center. 

Maudine Stamp

Maudine Pauline Augusta Roberts Stamp was born April 5, 1929, to Edward and Mae (Hebbert) Roberts in Dawes County, Chadron, Neb. She was the first of eight children. 

Melvin Hiermeier

Melvin K. “Rick” Hiermeier was born to Melvin A. Hiermeier and Ruby V. (Blessing) Feb. 1, 1951, in Hot Springs, S.D. He grew up in Pringle, S.D., until the age of 12, when he moved to Palmdale,  Calif. Rick traveled back and forth between California and South Dakota, but always thought of the Black Hills as his home.

Bill Tucker

Billy “Bill” Franklin Tucker was born in Blackwell, Texas, on Sept. 13, 1937 to F.L. “Tuck” and Karlene Tucker.  Bill died Sunday, June 7, 2020, at his home in Casa Grande, Ariz. He was 82. Memorials in Bill’s name can be sent to Great Plains Lutheran Hig

Floyd Bonk

Floyd Clifford Bonk, 95, a resident of DuPage Care Center, in Glen Ellyn, Ill., formerly of Custer, S.D., New Hope, Minn., Park Rapids, Minn., and various places in between, died May 16, 2020.

Ione Hanson

Ione Frances Hanson (Cooke) was born in London, England Sept. 26, 1944. She immigrated to the U.S. with her mother in 1947. She grew up in Anamoose, N.D.
Ione married Raymond Hanson Oct. 21, 1962. They raised seven children on a farm in central North Dakota. 
Ione trained and became a certified nursing assistant. She worked for Trinity Hospital in Minot N.D., until they moved to Custer, S.D. Ione then worked for the nursing home and assisted living facilities there. 
Ione was crafty. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting in her spare time.

Phyllis Boettcher

Phyllis (Hagenlock) Boettcher was born May 6, 1934, in Seneca, S.D., to Paul and Theresa (Gogolin) Hagenlock.  The family included a sister, Jean Akers.  
They moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1935.  Phyllis attended Custer, S.D., schools and graduated in 1952.  She attended Central Business College in Denver, Colo. Over the years she was employed at Ben Franklin’s, Paul’s Shoe and Western Wear, Ranch Market and Black Hills Ordnance Depot in Igloo, S.D.
