The Rangers girls volleyball team has now dropped to 14-10 on the season as they lost their last four matches.
Their most recent play was at the Northwestern tournament where they fell to Rapid City Christian 25-13, 25-16. The Rangers have lost twice to the Comets this season.
Tournament play also pitted the Rangers against Northwestern, who won 25-11, 25-21.
Alan Johnson, executive vice president of Recreational Adventure Co. (RAC), was recently honored with the Darrell Booth Lifetime Achievement Award by Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA).
The award was presented last week during RAC’s annual managers meeting in Hill City. Johnson is the seventh recipient of the award since its creation in 2011.
Johnson is the third generation of his family to promote outdoor hospitality in the Black Hills.
The Hill City Ranger cross country team raced at the Sturgis Invitational Cross Country Meet Sept. 29 and when the meet began, it was nearly 90 degrees outside.
“In spite of all that, we were really encouraged,” said head coach Joe Noyes. “Kids were positive and they got after the race and were competitive.”
Although the heat forced some athletes to drop out of the race, every runner from Hill City finished.
The Hill City Rangers football team fell to the Rapid City Christian Comets this past Friday by a score of 55-8.
The Rangers looked strong during the first half of the first quarter, scoring on a well-executed series of drives and holding the Comets to within a reasonable surmountable lead.
But the team was inconsistent and by the end of the first quarter, the score was 21-8 in favor of the Comets.
The Hill City Rangers girls volleyball team is 14-6 after a win against the Philip Scotties.
Despite losing the first set, the Rangers bounced back and the match ended in four sets, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22.
Coach Allie Henderson is overall very pleased with the way the team is playing. “It’s nice to play well in the present, and good to know that there is still a bright future. I’m feeling great at this point in the season.”
The Hill City Rangers golf team played in the Black Hills Conference tournament Sept. 20 and placed fifth out of 10 teams.
The conference took place at the Prairie Ridge golf course at Ellsworth Air Force Base.
Coach Josh Daiss explained the fall season outing. “We are a B school for golf, so our season is in the spring. We are allowed to play in the Black Hills Conference being a member school,” he said.
The Hill City Ranger cross country team raced again Sept. 23 in the Rapid City Area Schools High School Invitational Cross Country Meet.
According to head coach Joe Noyes, this meet gave the Rangers a chance to compete against some of their top contenders in Class A like Sioux Falls Christian, Belle Fourche, Custer and Chamberlain.
“It was just a really good meet to see where we stand as a team and a program at this point in the season,” Noyes said.
That’s what happened to the Newell Irrigators when they played the Hill City girls volleyball team at home Sept. 22. The girls won the match in four sets, 25-20, 25-15, 24-22, 25-23.
Coach Allie Henderson was ecstatic about the win. “The girls played hard and had fun. We definitely wanted to be their first loss and prove that we deserved that win,” she said.
The Hill City Ranger cross country team was back in action Sept. 17 for the Lyman Raider Nation Invitational Cross Country Meet in Presho. According to head coach Joe Noyes, it was an excellent day.
Since this was a smaller meet the athletes were challenged to do their very best. Expectations were set high, but Noyes believed they could be met. The Rangers rose to this challenge and claimed both the varsity boys and girls titles for the Presho meet.
