After loss on road, Rangers looking for win

The Hill City Rangers football team lost on the road against Sioux Valley by a score of 53-0. The boys are now 1-2 for the season.
Head coach Brett Eckert described Sioux Valley as a “very good team” thatis undefeated so far this season.
“Being down 20-0 at half against the number two team in the state showed that we are moving in the right direction,” Eckert said about the game.

Girls continue play on the road

The Hill City Rangers girls volleyball team is now 7-5 on the season after a “good showing” at the Monument Tournament this past weekend. The team went 3-2 in the tournament, with both losses coming against Stevens High School.
“We’ve had a tough schedule so far with most of our losses to AA schools, and even those were close games that could have been wins had we played our best game,” said head coach Allie Henderson.
Henderson doesn’t like to see the girls give up a close match.

Rangers set personal records at Heartland Preview

As a flat and fast course, the Heartland Preview started out hard and soon became a race of who could hang on. The Hill City High School Rangers not only succeeded in this but also set seasonal and personal records. 
To start, out of the 220 boys who placed in the varsity 5K, Luke Rupert won the meet with a time of 15:16.7. Head coach Joe Noyes added that for the first two miles of the race Rupert was six seconds faster than his lifetime personal record. 

Rangers win first game of the season

The Hill City Rangers High School Football team  is 1-1 on the season after crushing the Goldiggers of Lead-Deadwood by a score of 46-20. The Rangers offense included a 29-yard pass, a 17-yard touchdown pass and several long runs.

Rupert streaks to first place in Spearfish

It was another good day for the Hill City High School Rangers at the Northern Hills Invitational Cross Country Meet in Spearfish Sept. 1. This was a flat fast course and left several Rangers in the lead. 
For the boys varsity 5K, Luke Rupert won with a time of 15:48.35, “which is the fasted time I’ve had any athlete run a 5K in my 10 years of coaching here, and it’s one of the fasted times I know of in school history,” said head coach Joe Noyes. 

Volleyball bumps teams in opener

The Hill City Rangers Girls Volleyball team played its first match after its season opener against Red Coud got postponed.
The Rangers  went 3-2 at this weekend's tournament, beating New Underwood, STM, and St Francis. All the team’s losses were against the championship teams, Chadron and Rapid City Christian

Rangers off and running

The Rangers were off and running for the Hill City High School cross country team’s first meet of the season Friday, Aug. 25, hosted by Newcastle at Mallow Camp. 
Head coach Joe Noyes described the course as a tough but true cross country course out in the sticks going uphill for a mile and a half and then downhill for a mile and a half. 

Rangers kick off football season with home game

The Hill City High School Rangers  football team began its season on Aug. 19 against Tripp-Delmont.
“The 52-14 loss was a good gauge of where we feel we can be at, especially defensively,” said head coach Brett Eckert.
The team gave a solid first half defensive effort showing “glimmers” of what Eckert hopes the team will be on defense. Eckert described Tripp-Delmont as a big team that can lean on its opponent.

Back to School Rally will be held Sunday

Is your child or grandchild in need of school supplies or a backpack for the upcoming school year? There is a Back to School Rally Sunday, Aug. 13 where children in the community can get all this for free plus enjoy some fun activities. 
The Back to School Rally is spearheaded by Isaiah Steinbrecher. Steinbrecher has been in ministry since 1998, has a Ph.D. in Theology and has a master’s in counseling. Now he is going back to school to study education. 
“I really value kids and helping them and encouraging them to be creative,” said Steinbrecher. 

Boys rally to finish in top ten at state

The Hill City High School Ranger boys golf  team traveled to the Prairie Winds Golf Club in Watertown to compete in the Class State B Golf Tournament June 5-6.
The Rangers fired a 270 total, tying for 13th place after Monday’s first round.  
“David Hubacher played well on Monday, it was a bit of a struggle for the others on Monday,” said coach Josh Daiss. “After the round, we went out to dinner as a team and were determined to put that behind us and move onto day two.”
