Rangers football is back for the season

The Rangers football team travelled to Andes Central High School Aug. 20 to take on the Tripp-Delmont Thunderhawks.
 
According  to Coach Brett Eckert, the game was a “good way to see where we need to improve and get better.”
 
 Despite fighting hard, the team made  too many mistakes, killing drives offensively.  
 
“We did have some success moving the ball at times, but once again we can’t have miscues that then kill a drive,” Eckert said.

Archery tournament set for Saturday, Aug. 27

Bow hunting season is coming up soon and for those interested in a little practice, there is a local opportunity on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the ninth annual Young Life Archery Tournament. 
The fundraising event will take place about five miles west of Hill City on Deerfield Road and all are welcome to participate.

Rangers golfers place 17th at state

The Hill City Rangers Golf Team took 17th overall at their first trip to a state  tournament in the history of the school.
Normally a two-day event, intermittent rain hampered play for all the teams involved. Play on Monday was suspended in the afternoon due to rain. The boys were able to continue that first round on Tuesday morning. However by afternoon rains caused the entire event to cease, and only the first round scores were counted.

Rangers finish season at state track meet

The Hill City Rangers competed at the Class A State Track and Field Meet at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls from May 26-28. Although everyone enjoyed the experience, the results were met with some mixed emotions.
Things did not go as expected, but “We were really impressed by the resilience of our athletes and our coaches to just adapt and make it work,” said head coach Joe Noyes. “Our kids came to perform.”

Rangers head to state track meet

On May 19 the Hill City Rangers headed for Rapid City for the Region 8A Track Meet. It was a windy day with overcast conditions which unfortunately affected what the athletes were able to do. However, head coach Joe Noyes said, “Those athletes that did run ran really well and were a great representation of our team, school and community.”

Rangers place second at region golf meet

After securing  a runner-up finish at the Regional Tournament at Elks Golf Club May 23 the Hill City Rangers golf team is now heading to the State Tournament June 6-7.
oach Josh Daiss says it is his understanding that this will be the first time in Hill City School history that a boys team has accomplished that feat.
Daiss expressed his overall pride in the team’s season.

Edwards sets PR, boys look to qualify

The Black Hills Conference Track and Field meet was one of the remaining opportunities for the Rangers to qualify for state competition. Overall Coach Joe Noyes said he was “really pleased” with the boys and girls track teams performance.
“Every week they show up and they compete at the highest level,” Noyes said.

Swinging into second place

The Hill City Ranger Golf team traveled to Belle Fourche on Friday for the Marjean Huber Memorial invite hosted by the Bison.  The team finished second overall with three golfers placing in the top 10 for the first time this year.
Leo Daiss led the team with a second place finish while Zane Messick placed fourth and Adolph Tyler placed ninth.
Coach Josh Daiss said he was proud of the kids who battled the windy conditions with gusts up to 40 mph for their best finish of the year.
