5 YEARS AGO, 2017 — Ninety-three children received eye screenings at Hill City Elementary on Oct. 27. Out of the 93 children, eight were referred to go get an exam by an eye doctor. This was part of the Kidsight program. Pinky Horner, Kidsight program coordinator for western South Dakota, said if problems are caught early enough then hopefully they can be corrected. The children sat in a chair and looked at eye screeners for less than a minute. Horner said the screener is a laser, and it takes a quick picture of the eyes. The results are immediate.
