John Murphy

John D. Murphy was born Jan. 1, 1936. He passed away peacefully in his sleep Sept. 2, 2024, at the home of his daughter in Wisconsin. He was 88.
John is survived by his wife, Florence; children, Maureen, Shawn (Kathy), Shaila (Bruce Boutell) and Michael (Tanya); grandchildren, Jeramy (Kari), Katie, Kevin, Finn, Liam; great-grandchildren, Olive and Evan; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

DeAnna Hill

DeAnna L. Hill was born Dec. 19, 1947 at Scotland, S.D., at the doctor’s office and brought home to Tyndall, S.D., by her parents, Clareane and Gertrude (Dobesh) DeRoos.
DeAnna was second born of six children. She attended Tyndall Public School and met her husband, Duane, in 1964 at a dance. They were married March 14, 1965. Added to their family were four children.

Joyce Miller

Joyce May (Holmer) Miller peacefully passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, at her home in Hot Springs, S.D.  Until her final days, she embodied a spirit of adventure, joy and unwavering love for her children and grandchildren. We honor and express our gratitude for her long, beautiful life full of compassion, grace and kindness.

Diane Hillman

Diane Hillman was born May 13, 1934, in Ableman, Wis., to Reuben and Ida Stoeckmann. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Diane married Robert Hillman in 1957, who preceded her in death.  Diane was a faithful member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and was always loving and supportive to family and friends.
Diane died Sept. 12, 2024. She was 90.
She is survived by her son, Kirk Hillman of Custer, S.D.; daughter-in-law, Anita Hillman of Custer; and granddaughter, Lauren Hillman of Hudson, Wis.

Marinka Ziolkowski

Marinka Ziolkowski, daughter of Ruth and Korczak Ziolkowski, passed away Aug. 5, 2024, in Custer, S.D, at the age of 61.
Born Feb. 16, 1963, Marinka was known for her love of arts and animals, both of which were central to her life.

Shari Mattson

Shari Lee Mattson was born Sept. 20, 1974, in Rapid City, S.D., to Eric and Judy Mattson.
The Mattson family moved to Gillette, Wyo., shortly after her birth. She was joined by two brothers, Todd and Toby. Shari attended elementary and high school in Gillette; Casper, Wyo.; Sioux City, Iowa; and graduated high school in Wakefield, Neb.

Charles Webber

Charles Clinton “Clint” Webber was born Nov. 2, 1927, in Lead, S.D., to Bert and Florence Webber.  He grew up near Hill City, S.D., before moving to the Portland, Ore., area with his parents, where he graduated from high school in 1945.  He was an WWII era Army veteran, serving primarily in Maryland and Japan.

Shirley Boman

Shirley Ann (Muhm)  Boman was born Feb. 23, 1945, in Igloo, S.D., one of 12 children of Frederick Wayne Muhm and Mae Lillian Beeson Muhm.
She graduated high school in 1963 and entered the U.S. Army, where she met and married the love of her life, Charles Edward Boman at Fort Lee, Va. Feb. 26, 1965.

Donald Olson

Donald L. Olson, age 78, of rural Colton, S.D., passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Funeral services were April 2 at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls with Pastor Kirk Flaa officiating. Burial followed at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
