Marilyn Tounsley

Marilyn Tounsley was born to Joy and Donald Olson in DeSmet, S.D., in 1942. She was raised on the family farm along with her three sisters. After completing her schooling at DeSmet High School, she married Jerry Tounsley in 1959.
Marilyn and Jerry lived in Huron until 1975, when they moved to Wessington Springs, S.D.

Marvin Hansen

Marvin E. Hansen was born March 12, 1924, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Henry and Lillie Hansen. He grew up on a farm outside of Aberdeen.
By 1951 he was married, had been in the Navy (twice) where he received radar training and worked at an electronics warehouse and had a degree from the South Dakota School of Mines in electrical engineering. He worked for 35 years with U.S. Steel MinnTac plant in northern Minnesota, where he was assistant superintendent of electrical and instrumentation when he retired.

Loreeta Pepper

Loreeta M. Pepper, 87, of Rapid City, S.D., passed away Oct. 15, 2022.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 27 from 5-7 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City.  
Celebration of Life services will be Friday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church in Black Hawk, S.D.  Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Jim May

James “Jim” Michael May was born Oct. 23, 1944 in Deadwood, S.D.,  to the late Matthew J. and Lucille M. (Scheidt) May of Rapid City, S.D., and he was raised in Rapid City. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Denver in 1966 and a Master of Arts in 1968. Additionally, Jim studied at the University of Kansas from 1974-76. He taught Art History and Creative Photography at the University of Nebraska at Kearney from 1968-2006.

Diane Parsons

Diane Marie Parsons was born Oct. 6, 1960, the younger of four, to Donald and Shirley Parsons.
She was a graduate of Custer (S.D.) High School in 1978 after which she moved to Seattle, Wash., for a few years, before moving to Bullhead City, Ariz., and working in Laughlin, Nev.
She gave birth to her son, Donnald Bonnette in Needles, Calif., May 20, 1998. She eventually returned to Custer working various jobs until failing health issues forced her out of the work force. She succumbed to these on Oct. 10, 2022, at Monument Health Custer Hospital. She was 62.

DeElda Williams

DeElda L. Williams, 69, died Oct. 9, 2022.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 5–7 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home.  
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Fairburn Cemetery in Fairburn, S.D.

Michael Zeimet

Michael John Zeimet was born Aug. 30, 1955, in Hot Springs, S.D., to Michael David and Sylvia Marie (Owens) Zeimet.  
Mike attended grade school in Pringle, S.D., and graduated from Custer  (S.D.) High School and attended Black Hills State College. Mike’s careers included, but certainly were not limited to, rancher, truck driver, construction worker, carpenter and heavy equipment operator.
Mike, of Newcastle, Wyo., passed away Sept. 29, 2022, at Mayo in Rochester, Minn. He was 67.

Kevin Locke

Kevin Locke (Lakota name Tȟokéya Inážiŋ, meaning “The First to Arise” is Lakota (Hunkpapa band) and Anishinaabe. He is a preeminent player of the North American Indigenous flute, a traditional storyteller, cultural ambassador, recording artist, fluent Lakota language and Indigenous sign language speaker and educator. He is most known for his hoop dance, The Hoop of Life.

Keith Blume

Keith Ray Blume was born in Parkston, S.D., April 9, 1945, to Fredrick and Susan Blume. He joined four brothers.
He graduated high school from Armour, S.D., in 1964 and then went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army from February 1966 until his honorable discharge in February 1970. Keith loved telling stories about his time spent in Germany.

Rita Anfinson

Rita Louise Anfinson was born May 29, 1946, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Rita E. (Thompson) Willis and Joe H. Willis.
Professionally, Rita made a career of caring for others working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Sioux Valley Hospital, the Hot Springs (S.D.) VA Medical Center and Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home.
Rita was united in marriage to Roland Anfinson Jan. 1, 2001, in Sioux Falls, S.F., after a 20-year courtship.
