Robert Crisman

Robert (Bob) Charles Crisman, passed away on July 11th, 2022.  Bob was born August 9, 1949, in Rapid City, and graduated high school in Hill City in 1967. He married his high school sweetheart, Colleen McNulty and joined the Air Force right away. Bob and Colleen had two children Angela and Dale. Bob retired in 2004 after 31 years of service at Mt. Rushmore National Memorial. He was most famous for rappelling the faces to maintain the majestic figures.
Bob was a real man. He could do anything from working the skidsteer, to carpentry, to plumbing/electrical and fencing.

Sharon Marie (Flack) Knust was born June 1, 1942, in Milbank, S.D., to Wesley and Harmina (Broekema) Flack.
Sharon had five brothers and three sisters. She attended and graduated from high school in Custer, S.D.
She met her lifelong sweetheart, David, while living in Custer. From there she followed him to Rhode Island where they were married. She married David Lee Knust July 2, 1960, in Bristol, R.I.

David Slaughter

David Noel Slaughter was born Nov. 11, 1948, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Albert and Mildred (Johnson) Slaughter.
Following graduation from Custer (S.D.) High School in 1967, David enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam.
Upon completion of active military service in 1970, he attended summer classes at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D., where he met and married Ruth (Bakeberg) Slaughter. They had two sons, John and Joseph.

Linda Karna

Linda Carol Karna was born March 12, 1950, in Owatonna, Minn., to Lloyd and Marilyn (Remold) Dahl. There she was raised and attended school graduating in 1968.
Linda met the love of her life and was united in marriage to Wayne Karna Sept. 19, 1970, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Owatonna until moving to Custer, S.D., in 1976 to raise their family.

Wayne Nielsen

Wayne Nielsen was born Sept. 15, 1939, to the late Ambrose and Vera and brother to the late John and James.
Wayne loved his family ferociously.  He carried the scars and broken body of a man who would do anything to provide for the ones he loved.
He treated every person he encountered the same, as purely as that statement can be boiled down.

Barbara Louise Test was born Sept. 8, 1940 in Mitchell, S.D., on a dairy farm and moved to a ranch in the Black Hills of South Dakota near Custer at age 8.

Casimir Ziolkowski

Casimir Pavel Ziolkowski was born on March 3, 1954, at Crazy Horse, S.D., up at the mountain where he gave his heart and soul.
Cas met the woman of his dreams in 1982 and it didn’t take him long to ask her to spend the rest of her life with him, and he was thankful she said yes. Only a year later and they were married, on Nov. 12, 1983.
Cas took on the role of a father for David and Sonja and not too long after that,  his wife Deiadra had Cheyanne, and four years later she had Taylor.

Bernard Carroll

Bernard Dennis Carroll was born Nov. 15, 1958 in Carmel, Calif., to Bernard K. and Ione L. Carroll.
Bernard, of Rapid City, died peacefully in his sleep March 3, 2022. He was 63.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bernard is survived by his sisters, Rama K. Hayes and Carmela J. Hall; and numberous nieces and nephews.
