Call of the Week

Wednesday, Oct. 2
6:17 a.m.: A disorderly dude was described as disturbing a Hermosa truck stop. Deputies arrived to find a 55-year-old transient male who refused to leave the place, saying he was “Satan” and that he wasn’t leaving until “John the Baptist” showed up. Saint John never arrived on scene and deputies were forced to use a TASER device to subdue the male, who kicked both deputies during the struggle and was eventually taken to jail for a stack of charges, including assaulting law enforcement officers.     

Free fashion and fun next weekend

The 12th annual Girlfriends’ Weekend is making its way to Hill City Nov. 1-3.
The signature November event kicks off with the always-popular free fashion show Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The evening features Hill City merchant fashions where people can see things they’re interested in buying the day after.

Bringing the music of Taiwan to Custer

The Taiwanese band A Moving Sound is moving into Custer for the week, bringing with them their unique sound with traditional Taiwanese and contemporary influences. The band has built a global following through its joyous mix of original music and dance.

10 years ago, 2014 — The Town of Hermosa was in the initial stages of a study that could end with three-phase annexation of land outside of the town’s borders. The first area of that study was Fairgrounds Place Road east of town, which would bring 18 properties into the town limits. Eventually, annexation would also bring parts of Hwy.

7:45 a.m.: Someone knocked down a stop sign next to Howard  Street in Pringle. This is apparently not the first time. The “someone” responsible for the damage must not have enough work or hobbies to occupy their time.     

Three vie for District 30 House of Representatives

Voters in District 30 have three choices for two seats in the South Dakota House of Representatives this General Election, with Republican incumbent Trish Ladner, fellow Republican Tim Goodwin and Democrat Susan Scheirbeck all vying for a two-year term.

October at the Hill City Public Library

A few weeks ago, I attended the yearly South Dakota Library Association Conference in Aberdeen. I attended workshops and sessions on several different topics. The HCPL received our certificate for Exemplary Accreditation, and I received my certificate for Library Director Certification.
