10 years ago, 2014 — County deputy state’s attorney Matthew M. Brown was nominated to be the newest member of the 7th Judicial Court in Rapid City. Brown was set to magistrate judge Shawn J. Pahlke, who announced her retirement. Presiding Seventh Circuit Judge Jeff Davis announced Brown’s nomination...Despite some rain and the threat of hail, the Vintage Bike Show took place the first Monday of Custer Cruisin’. Thirty-three motorcycles were on display. The bikes were judged in three categories: Domestic, European and Metric. There was also a People’s Choice category.

Lawmakers expressed frustration recently in Pierre over the uncertain price tag for construction and operations of a proposed men’s prison in Lincoln County.
Members of the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee also had pointed questions for Department of Corrections (DOC) officials on alternative sites for the project, which has sparked a lawsuit from nearby neighbors and represents the most expensive taxpayer-funded capital project in state history.

7:14 p.m.: A deputy checked the welfare of a person on Canal Street in Custer. The person turned out to be fine.
8:51 p.m.: A deputy helped with an emergency medical call on Ox Yoke Court south of Custer.
Monday, July 1
8:34 a.m.: A deputy did traffic control at the scene of a broken-down pickup towing a camper on Hwy. 36 west of Hermosa. The hapless behemoth was eventually towed away.
