Easter services in Hill City, Keystone

Easter is coming early this year, and with it the churches in Hill City and Keystone are busy preparing special services to celebrate the holiday. 
In Hill City The Little White Church (LWC) will have Palm Sunday services at 8:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Mar. 24. 
There will be a Good Friday service at 6 p.m. Mar. 29. During this service, the elders of LWC will be taking turns speaking about the events leading up to the crucifixion, and there will be communion.

Serving up fun for Hill City families

Lions Club Bingo will be serving up fun for a great cause this month — the Hill City School District Angel Fund.
Lions Club Board President Stefanie Doaty says that 75 percent of the bingo night proceeds will be donated to the Angel Fund.
“A lot of people don’t know what the Angel Fund is,” says Doaty. 
The Angel Fund was established as a means to help Hill City School District (HCSD) families who are behind on their student breakfast and lunch accounts.

Carson Brown won this year’s Steve Thorpe award. The award was given out at the final 2023-24 season Live on Stage show on March 16 at High Country Guest Ranch.
Brown said he was shocked at winning. 
“I had no clue this was gonna happen, I just thought they wanted me back to play a little,” said the dumbfounded Brown after receiving the award.
The Custer resident said he is honored by the award. 
Brown has played a few times at Live on Stage.  Apparently last time was the best time.

Thorpe Award to be given at Live on Stage

March 16 will be “another fun night,” said Hill City Arts Council (HCAC) Board president Kristie Van Bogart about the last Live on Stage event of the season. The evening, held at High Country Guest Ranch, features  music, dancing and community congregating as well at the presentation of the Steve Thorpe award. Thorpe is a singer, songwriter, author and writer for the Rapid City Journal. 
Van Bogart says she  “can’t share any big secrets but doesn’t think anyone will be disappointed,” about the 2024 winner.

— Hill City got its very own “Hill City Trolley.” The trolley was surplused by the City of Deadwood and acquired by the Hill City Area Chamber of Commerce. It was subsequently purchased by Rabbit Bicycle & Shuttle. Stacey Phillips, owner of Rabbit Bicyles & Shuttle (and Deadwheels) and Giddyup Shuttle saw this as a natural fit with her business. “This trolley is a great new feature and addition to Hill City,” said Janet Wetovick-Bily, Hill City Area Chamber of Commerce director.
