A vision for a park with a legacy

Memorial Park has long been the heart of Hill City’s recreation scene, serving as a space for local families, athletes and visitors. From youth sports games to football practices and picnics by Spring Creek, the park has been a fixture in the community for decades. Now, work has begun on a long-range vision to transform the space into an asset of which the community can truly be proud.

Lots to do locally for Independence Day

Both Hill City and Keystone have a lot planned for people looking for something to do locally over the Independence Day holiday.
“With Mount Rushmore in our backyard and the community’s rich old west Americana history, Fourth of July in Keystone is the epitome of our nation’s independence,” said Keystone director of tourism Laura  Schluckebier.
Schluckebier suggests visiting a Keystone attraction or having a bite to eat at one of the town’s restaurants before heading up the hill to Mount Rushmore. 

Trail Trek draws hundreds to Black Hills adventure

Bicyclists and adventurers alike set out on a three-day, 109-mile journey through the heart of the Black Hills last weekend during the fifth annual George S. Mickelson Trail Summer Trek—a point-to-point ride from Edgemont to Deadwood that immerses participants in the rugged beauty of South Dakota’s iconic rail trail. 

Summer concert series returns with local flavor

The Hill City Summer Concert Series is back and ready to set the stage for another season of music, community and summertime fun, beginning with a bang this Independence Day.
Kicking off the free outdoor music series July 4 is the ever popular Wilt Brothers Band, local favorites who get requested time after time. The event, hosted by Crave by Black Hills Bistro and First Impressions Salon, will run from 5-8 p.m. in the outdoor patio space outside of the stores.

Railroad ledgers platform for creative expression

Pages from historic railroad ledger books are now filled with color, creativity and imagination thanks to a unique art competition hosted by the South Dakota State Railroad Museum (SDSRM).
Now in its fifth year, the Railroad Ledger Art Competition is a showcase of artistic talent, engineered to help students explore state and railroad history while expressing their creativity. The annual competition blends art, history and education in an engaging way.
